Salary:                          £90,000 – £95,000
DBS required:              Enhanced DBS with adult and child barring

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

  • Board of Trustees – accountable to the Board via the Chair and for ensuring Trustees are
    kept fully informed in their governance role.
  • Patrons and other honorary officers – building engagement with and support for St Wilfrid’s mission.
  • Staff and volunteers – providing leadership to an extended workforce and building motivation
    and engagement in the charity’s mission and plans.
  • Other hospice CEOs, Trustees and teams – engaging in collaborative partnership working to enhance reach, impact and efficiency of hospice services in Sussex in particular. 
  • NHS/social care providers and commissioners – building partnership working and influence
    within an evolving Integrated Care System.
  • Donors and supporters – enhancing the reputation of St Wilfrid’s to build financial and other support.
  • The VCSE – building relationships with other community groups to enable partnership working and mutual learning.
  • General public – ensuring widespread knowledge of St Wilfrid’s, its range of services and working to ensure equity of access for all.

JOB PURPOSE

Working in partnership with the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive is responsible for the success of the charity in meeting its purpose. The CEO is the executive lead and, working with the Board and Leadership Team, determines the vision, mission, values and strategy that will most effectively meet the needs of the charity’s beneficiaries and that will ensure the charity is relevant and sustainable.  The CEO leads the team responsible for implementing the strategy and business plans and for ensuring the highest standards of financial stewardship, regulatory compliance and service delivery.

JOB SCOPE

Decision-making level

  • Overall strategic and operational decision making in line with Schedule of Delegated Authority
  • Ability to commit resources and sign contracts
  • Ability to make decisions on staffing establishments and new investment

Financial resources

  • Total income and expenditure of c.£9m

Other resources

 

  • Overall responsibility for estate, plant and buildings
  • Responsible for all other resources used in pursuit of the charity’s work

People management

  • Leading a staff team of c.220 and 500+ volunteers
  • Immediate line management of a team of six to eight people

Legal, regulatory and compliance responsibility

  • Nominated individual with CQC, with overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with care
    quality standards and preparation for CQC inspections
  • Responsible for liaison with Charity Commission, providing annual return and reporting serious incidents
  • Responsible for ensuring the charity’s accounts are audited annually
  • Senior Information Risk Officer
