Dear Candidate,
Thank you for taking the time in your busy life to consider becoming a Trustee at St Luke’s Hospice (Harrow & Brent) or a Non-Executive Director of our Shops Board.
You will find further information in this pack about the Hospice and our shops which we hope you will find helpful and comprehensive as you think about joining us.
Before you start reading, please allow us a moment to give you some added food for thought. You will already know that St Luke’s is an exceptional organisation doing important things for our community. You may already know us through family experience or due to our strong reputation. Our standing means that we are fortunate to attract very committed and impressive talent: every person who volunteers or works with St Luke’s is passionate about their work, our patients and their families.
Becoming a Trustee or Non-Executive Director at St Luke’s is a responsible and fascinating opportunity. Much is written about Trustee duties, and we also want to highlight the benefits that accrue to your personal development if you become a Trustee or a Non-Executive Director.
You will be working at the highest level with other experienced and interesting colleagues, helping to shape and define the future choices for these relevant and important organisations at a strategically fascinating moment in their evolution. For leaders with board experience, this is an interesting opportunity to “sit on the other side” of the boardroom table. For emerging leaders this gives you first-hand experience of how boards make decisions and interact with executives.
You will have read about the challenges that charitable hospices are facing and St Luke’s is also considering the changes that we will need to make to ensure our future sustainability. Our shops are a significant and vital source of funding. Both Boards are very aware of the need for transformation, and we are committed to leading this responsibly and transparently, working together. St Luke’s has the benefit of reserves as well as generous and hard-working stakeholders including our patrons and donors and a committed community
We ask a lot of our Trustees and Non-Executive Directors, but we work together to ensure that it is worth their while. Should you decide to progress your interest, we can assure you that it will be an exciting journey and you will be working with colleagues who are committed, passionate and ambitious for the best outcome for our community. It will be a deeply rewarding experience and you will know that your contribution has really helped our patients, their families and our dedicated teams.
If you have the energy and passion to support our journey, we really want to meet you!
Very best wishes
Meg Lustman, Chair of Board of Trustees St Luke’s Hospice (Harrow & Brent)
Carolyn Hector, Chair of St Luke’s Hospice Charity Shops (Harrow & Brent)
